We ♥ Cloth Diapers!

For as long as I can remember I have been determined to use cloth diapers. I can't even begin to describe the bizarre faces people have made when I've informed them of this fact. The faces I can handle, it's the annoying "Yeah right, you can't do that, you'll change your mind" comments that drove me insane. Most people acted like my hope to use cloth diapers was more like wishful thinking. Now that we've actually been using them people seem more surprised than discouraging. I highly recommend cloth diapering! I have been blessed with the ability to be a SAHM which I am sure makes it a lot more realistic to use cloth diapers. If I had to put my little one in daycare I'm sure I'd get some of the craziest looks from daycare workers if I asked them if they would use them on Daisy. Using cloth diapers takes a little more work than using disposables but compared to the money (and planet) saved it is well worth the little extra effort!

We use prefold diapers and Snappi diaper fasteners, with the Thirsties Duo Wrap covers.

The Thirsties Duo Wraps come in a variety of adorable colors and the option of velcro or snap closures. I prefer the velcro closures since they give a more accurate fit around the waist, though some people complain they collect lint just like any other velcro closure. These covers come in 2 sizes, Size One and Size Two, but each size had 3 size options, choosing the snap that make the most secure fit. I highly recommend these covers! Having the multiple size options per cover means you have to buy less of them in the long run!

When on the go I take along 2 large Kushies Wet Bags, one for dirty diapers and the other for extra covers. These are also great for soiled clothes, burp clothes, etc. I just throw them in the wash along with the cloth diapers and hand them to dry!I've even taken the cloth diapers on a few trips. So far I haven't had any problems, though I do plan on investing in more of the wet bags! When we're heading out of town I Throw all of her prefolds and covers in my Blue Avocado Reusable shopping bag! I can fit all 25 prefolds and 8 covers in one bag. When I'm not using this bag for cloth diapers I keep it balled up and clipped to my diaper bag for any spontaneous shopping!

I recently purchased 2 reusable swim diapers and should be getting them in the mail any day now! I can't wait to see how they work! I'll be sure to let you know! Here are a few pictures of Daisy in her Prefold cloth diapers with snappies and her Thirsties covers!

Motherhood has taught me...

Never leave the house without a change of clothes! You never know when a blowout of epic proportions may occur! And then there's spit up, sometimes LOTS of spit up! I always try and keep a change of clothes for Daisy in her diaper bag, and when I remember I take along a change of clothes for myself in case she decides to share her mess. Daisy's diaper leaked the other day and she was soaked, just so happens I had used the extra outfit I had in her diaper bag the day before. Eek! I had to figure out how to wrap her in her blanket so i could still strap her in her carseat! Here's my naked baby!

Motherhood has taught me...

Don't take the little things for granted. I think so often we as human being focus too much on the negative and not near enough on the positive. Everything is centered around money, looks, what they've got that I want, shoulda, coulda, wouldas. There are days that I don't get everything on my "to do list" done whether it's because Daisy has decided to have a fussy day and she didn't warn me it was going to be "one of those days" when I was making my list that morning or she fell asleep in my arms and I just don't want to move. I try and remind myself it's the little things that matter. I may have a million things to do but she's only going to be this little once. If she needs extra cuddle time, cuddle more. If she's got something to say and is tired of her stuffed animals not responding, sit, listen, and chime in when she'll let me.

Silent Night

I love a variety of music/artists. I have tons of favorite songs. I don't think you can go wrong when it comes to Elton John, John Denver, The Beatles, A Fine Frenzy, Sarah Bareilles, and many others. I have one problem though, when I need a song to sing or hum to calm Daisy down or entertain her my mind goes blank! I sometimes wonder if my mom had the same problem and this is why she can sings songs about anything. The other night Daisy was fighting sleep and screaming her head off and as I rocked her I noticed that for the past few minutes I had been humming Silent Night. I don't remember thinking about it or starting to hum but after a few minutes Daisy had calmed down and drifted to sleep. Ever since then every time I need a song to sing the words to Silent Night have always been there. I love that as I start to hum she gets this look of not being to hold her eyes open any more. So here's to humming Christmas music all year long and many more silent nights.

Motherhood has taught me...

It is not likely that 2 or more rooms in my house will ever be clean at the same time. I'm pretty sure I've been cleaning my house for 2 weeks now and have yet to have it complete. Being that we spend the majority of our time in the kitchen and living room those two rooms dirty up the fastest and I am constantly cleaning them. Where's a good cleaning fairy when you need it? *Forget fairies, I'll accept gnomes, elves, anything at this point!
